Copy. It’s Always About the Copy.
Everything I do as a marketing consultant has an element of copywriting to it. I work with a diverse mix of clients and projects — and marketing-smart copy is an element of everything I deliver.
Here’s my writer’s round-up for you to explore. From blog posts to case studies to email marketing, social media posts and website content, I really enjoy it all.
If you think I’m sold! I want to work with Melanie the Marketer, please contact me. Let’s talk about your copywriting needs and how I might help.
Blog Posts
Ean Price Murphy, of Moxie Bookkeeping in Brooklyn, NY, is a Profit First Professional — i.e., a coach who helps small business owners be thoughtful about each dollar they earn, spend and save. It’s been fun working with Ean and ghostwriting articles for her, like this one. And I’ve enjoyed applying the Profit First principles to my business, too.
I’ve been a blogging machine for my long-time client, West-coast based First San Francisco Partners, racking up more than 130 blog posts in four years! Their HR manager wanted to contribute to the company blog, but she couldn’t find the time. So I interviewed her and wrote this for her.
Here are two more blog posts of mine that you’re welcome to check out: Joe James Explores Nixon’s Demons and Why Cash Flow is the Lifeblood of Business.
Case Studies
When I moved to Arizona from Missouri in 2017, I devoted a chunk of time to grow my business network. I first met Andy Brenits, of Brenits Creative, in an online marketing accountability group. The fact we both happen to live in a Phoenix suburb (Queen Creek) was a fun discovery. Andy needed someone to interview his clients for a big case studies project. I was up for the challenge, and here is one of five I created for Andy.
I never thought about laser cutting being a thing until I had the opportunity to interview Sarah Pike, of FreeFall Laser, for Marketing Mentor’s Ilise Benun. I enjoyed learning about Sarah’s business, her target audience and small-business marketing successes. Her case study is one of several I wrote for Ilise. (Ilise is my business coach, too. She works with creative professionals — graphic designers, writers, marketers, et al — and is the best!)
Online Articles
A marketing manager from the University of Cincinnati Online contacted me about writing two advertorials (i.e., paid article placements) in the Cincinnati Business Courier. One project led to another, and I ended up writing six advertorials for three marketing managers — all in record time, IMHO.
Website Copy (site set-up, too)
An IT industry-focused business coach in Scottsdale, AZ, was referred to me by a client. He wanted a Squarespace site, had already bought the domain and was paying for hosting. He said he’d provide the copy, too, and the project kicked off quickly. After reading the copy, I knew there was more to say about his experience and he welcomed the copy changes I recommended. (I’m married to a long-time IT professional, so I understand the coach’s target audience!) The client and I had numerous conversations about marketing and enjoyed our partnership so much that we collaborated on two more substantial site updates since then.
Email Marketing Copy
I met attorney Jacob Fleming, of Fleming & Monroe, in a networking group. Our group eventually disbanded, but I kept tabs on Jacob and his law firm. When he contacted me about marketing support, including getting his on-again/off-again email newsletter going, I was happy to take his call. Now I’m working with F&M on a whole host of exciting marketing initiatives. Networking FTW!
Social Media Content
A Queen Creek, AZ, estate planning attorney didn’t have the time or expertise to keep his social media accounts active. He now relies on me to create content for Facebook and Instagram. He says that this more active presence on social — along with my weekly efforts to optimize his Google business listing — brings in more leads for his legal practice.
The general manager at cryotherapy salon KC Cryo in (no surprise) Kansas City was social-savvy. But she needed an experienced marketer to coordinate and supplement the occasional posts she could find time to do on-site. Soon, I was not just managing their three social accounts but also their email marketing and website updates, too.
